A Vital Connection:
The Indian Cultural Association of Älmhult (ICAÄ) is a non-political, non-profit organization. We are proud to be the only association of our kind in Älmhult recognized by the Indian Embassy. We work closely with local partners like Aktivitetshuset Älmhult and the Älmhult Kommun to provide a space where culture and community meet.
Our Mission & Objectives
Our purpose is to sustain and promote Indian culture, customs, and traditions while fostering integration within the wider Swedish society. We strive to:
Celebrate national and regional festivals to reconnect with our cultural roots.
Introduce Indian heritage to the youth and children to keep our culture alive.
Support newcomers in their journey to integrate within the Älmhult Kommun.
Increase awareness and knowledge of Indian traditions among all residents of the Älmhult municipality.
The Spark of an Idea It all began with a simple shared longing for the sights, sounds, and flavors of home. Initially, a few Indian friends started organizing cultural events and festivals as a small, informal circle. As our community in Älmhult grew, we realized we needed to move beyond a closed group and create a space where everyone—not just close friends—felt truly welcome.
A Growing Need For a long time, ICAÄ operated as a passionate group of volunteers without formal registration. However, as the Indian community expanded and international friends showed interest in our traditions, we saw a clear need to become an official organization. We recognized that registration was vital to integrate effectively with the Älmhult Kommun, the Indian Embassy, and other local organizations.
Becoming Official On 6th May 2020, our board officially approved the ICAÄ Constitution, marking our transition into a registered association. This milestone was not just about paperwork; it was a commitment to preserve our Indian heritage for our youth while building a vibrant, inclusive, and peaceful community in Sweden.
The heartbeat of ICAA Älmhult is its leadership. Following our AGM on January 17th, 2026, we are proud to introduce the dedicated members elected to guide our association. More than just a board, these individuals are the driving force behind our events, cultural programs, and community outreach. We are honored to have their vision and commitment leading us toward a vibrant 2026.

Our permanent volunteers are the backbone of ICAA Älmhult. These dedicated members have officially signed on for the 2026 term to lead our events, cultural programs, and community outreach. We are proud to introduce the team making an impact this year.
We would not be where we are today without the incredible support of our community. Our journey from a small group of friends to an official association recognized by the Indian Embassy has been built on the kindness and hard work of many.
We want to say a special thank you to:
Our Previous Board Members: For your leadership and for laying the foundation of ICAÄ.
